Quick guide

What to Do When Your Pool Starts Turning Green Again

Check these in order before adding any treatment:

  1. 1Is the pump running and the water circulating? Empty baskets and check the return jets.
  2. 2Is the filter clean? Compare pressure to your clean reading.
  3. 3Test free chlorine. Near zero? Sanitizer ran out — that's the most common cause.
  4. 4Test pH. High pH makes chlorine weak even when it's present.
  5. 5Test cyanuric acid. Very high stabilizer can make chlorine ineffective.
  6. 6Well water or tint appeared after chlorinating? Test for metals before treating.
  7. 7Now go to the matching step: brush (Step 4), then sanitize per label (Step 5).
Go to Step 4 — Brush the Pool

Never mix pool chemicals, and keep swimmers out until free chlorine and pH test within the label's swim-safe range.
